The word “Giftmas”

In I will not write about the Giftmas gifts I bought (Jeremy Zawodny’s blog) is the first time I’ve seen that word. It seems very appropriate for my non-religious family. My daughter’s the only who cares about gifts, the adults are definitely burnt out over the whole consumerist charade. We’re going to buy our gifts at the Boxing Day sales. Note for Americans: Boxing Day is the British name for the day after Christmas; we use it in Canada too.

Those wacky end of the year deadlines.

I have between 4 and 6 "vitally important" things to finish by the end of the year. At best, I could do 2. Naturally the priority shifts every couple of hours, or as each person who wants somethings "drops by" to plead their case. It is good for my ego, it seems as if the company can’t survive without me. I have learned, however, that nothing actually happens with the software that I’m working between now and the end of the year, so I can sit back and enjoy the panic. Well, I wish I could, but being pulled in so many directions get me nice and angry for the holidays. At least I’m now smart enough to know that it’s worthless to kill myself trying to get these things done. Nobody really cares, which feeds the anger nicely.

Nothing like sticking to the barely existent development plan. I guess nobody really learns anything here.

War is over, if you want it.

John Lennon’s Christmas rings true after 35 years. There’s always a war, even if it’s not the one he was singing about. I think that most people don’t want war, but the people in charge want one. You hope human beings would learn, but it seems we rarely do.

War could be over, if we all wanted it.

It’s so cold….

that I wish I was Keith Richards. I’d have my blood drained and replaced with 5W30.

Disclaimer: this joke is meaningless if you live in a warm climate, and possibly if you haven’t heard the rumours about one way that Keith Richards kicked heroin.

Paul Martin says “no” to referendum on gay marriage

I think that’s actually the right decision. At the core, this is a decision on minority rights, and shouldn’t be subjected to the tyranny of the majority. This is going to cause a lot of upheaval, and trying to limit it to Parliament will reduce the scope, at least.

This is one of the drawbacks of moving to constitutional law. We now join the United States in expending enourmous amounts of time and money over the meaning of a single word.

import rss seems to be right way

It seems like the wordpress export&import RSS wil do the job.
Now I just have to get my old wordpress machine booted.

Looks like I’ll need a shorter/smaller title as well.

Step X: importing from another wordpress blog

I’ve installed wordpress on my home machine, and made it available under the address jsparkes.dyndns.org. This is flakey at best. Damn cable modems! It would be great if I could import the posts from that blog.
Actually, it would be great to do it two ways, so I’d have a complete backup of my drivel. Plus, I’d write more drivel if my blog was alive most of the time. Actually, that’s probably a minus
